Biography

Martha M. Tooker of Brookfield, Conn. passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008 in Danbury Hospital after being stricken ill. She was 96.

Born on July 20, 1911 in Astoria, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Triner) Van Cura and moved to Norwalk at the age of seven. She was educated in local schools and resided in Norwalk for forty years. She moved to Georgetown, Conn. and Florida, both for twenty years, before settling in Brookfield Conn., over seven years ago.

She worked as a sewing machine operator at the former Swank Corp. of S. Norwalk for many years, until her retirement.

Martha was a private lady who enjoyed her family. She also loved nature and especially admired butterflies. Additionally, she enjoyed reading and jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth N. and her husband, Warren F. Malkin, Sr. of Brookfield, Conn; a son, Harold C. and his wife, Agnes Notzelmann of Jensen Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Laura J. Notzelmann, Sally A. and her husband, Bill Patrignelli, Warren F. Jr., Mark A., David W. and April Malkin; five great- grandchildren, William, Damion and Brandy Patrignelli and Ryan J. and Daniel J. Malkin; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death were her first husband, Karl A. Notzelmann and her second husband, Frank M. Tooker.

Martha's family will receive relatives and friends in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street on May 30, 2008 from 9:00AM to 10:00AM. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral parlor at the conclusion of calling hours, 10:00AM. The Rev. Kate Heichler of Church of Christ, The Healer of Stamford will officiate. Interment will follow in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery.
