Catherine M. Filsinger, 88, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at her home after being stricken ill. Her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Ernest J. Filsinger, Sr. passed away in 2004.

Born in Westport on March 30, 1920, Catherine was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Lizak) Furmanek and graduated from Staples High School in 1938.
Catherine was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her eight children. She also loved to surround herself amongst her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, George P. Filsinger and his partner, Lois Johnston, John E., Kenneth and Kevin Filsinger, all of Norwalk; two daughters, Ellen G. Filsinger of Norwalk and JoAnn and her husband, Richard St. Pierre of Manchester, NH; four grandchildren, David and Deborah Ward and Daniel and Stephen St. Pierre and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death were a son, Ernest J. Filsinger, Jr., a daughter, Barbara Ward, one brother and three sisters.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in Norwalk’s Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 2:00PM – 3:00PM. Her funeral will follow at the conclusion of calling hours, 3:00PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
